The Detroit News, in an editorial entitled “One of Michigan’s Finest Jurists,” pays honor to the ability of Hon. Henry M. Butzel, Michigan State Supreme Court Justice, member of one of Detroit’s leading Jewish families. The News editorial urges the Republican state convention to nominate him by acclamation in recognition of his worth as a jurist. The text of the editorial reads:
“All over Michigan the appointment of Justice Butzel was hailed as a recognition of unusual legal worth. For Justice Butzel was never a politician, had never sought office, and would certainly never raise a finger today to keep a position which he accepted out of a sense of duty to the people of his state, if a struggle for the nomination were necessary. In accepting a place on the Supreme Bench, he made large sacrifices; perhaps he has been repaid by the praise and confidence of the people. At any rate, he is too good a judge to be lost to the public service, and by nominating him unanimously the Republican convention will do much to retain the respect of the rank and file, will pay tribute to its own good sense, and will honor one of Michigan’s finest jurists.”
