800 Jews Attend Ceremonies Starting Workers’ Suburb

Carrying on in the face of the dismay created by the new British policy, 800 Jews journeyed by special train to Haifa today to attend the ceremonies incident to the laying of the cornerstone for the Haifa Bay Workers Suburb which when completed will cost $507,500 and will comprise 2,000 cottages on an area of 3,000 dunams.

The funds for the enterprise, which will be used as homes by the Jewish workers in the railway shops now being built at Haifa Bay, were furnished by the Palestine Economic Corporation’s Mortgage Bank, the Keren Hayesod, the Palestine Emergency Fund, and the Hassneh Insurance Co. The future occupants of the cottages will furnish $350,000, the Palestine Economic Corporation’s Mortgage Bank, $100,000, the Hassneh Insurance Co., $10,000 and the Keren Hayesod $10,000.
