Endeavoring to reconcile the attitude of the Palestine Agudath Israel, Orthodox organization unaffiliated with the Jewish Agency, with that of the World Agudath, which has deprecated the attitude of its Palestine branch in announcing that it backed the Jewish community in declining to have anything to do with the proposed legislative council, Rabbi Blau, Agudath leader, today denied that his organization’s anti-British policy was the result of Zionist pressure.
While the World Agudath is not in favor of boycotting the legislative assembly it has written to its Palestine branch to express its deep disappointment at the British policy which “contravenes the Mandate rendering a farcical interpretation of the Balfour Declaration.” Rabbi Blau declared that the Palestine Agudath was reluctant to break the unity of Palestine Jewry in face of the new British policy but it was also not desirous of breaking the Agudath unity.
Rabbi Blau pointed out that if his organization finally decided not to support the legislative council he and his associates would seek to convince the Agudath executive that it was in error and that the final decision does not rest with it.
