A near panic broke out today among the Jews of Piatra when they received word that Professor Alexander Cuza, leader of the anti-Semitic movement, was coming to the town with a group of his fellowers in connection with the suit of a Christian worker against his Jewish employer.
The hasty intervention of a delegation of Jews with the police prefect of Piatra led to the intervention of the central authorities in Bucharest who sent word that Professor Cuza would not come to Piatra. It was recalled that when Professor Cuza and his followers passed through Targu-Fromos last summer anti-Jewish riots took place.
Meanwhile the Bucharest police have granted permission to the nationalist students to hold a mass meeting in Bucharest tomorrow in connection with the anniversary of the students’ movement. The permit was granted notwithstanding the protests of Jewish leaders in and out of parliament. Senator Meyer Ebner protested again today but was told that the students had promised to maintain order and to see to it that there were no disturbances.
