The six Zionist deputies who were elected to the new Polish Sejm yesterday organized themselves into a Jewish Parliamentary Club. Dr. Joshua Thon was elected president of the club, which consists of four Zionist deputies from Galicia and two from Old Poland. Deputy Henry Rosmarin of Galicia was elected vice-president. Deputy Isaac Gruenbaum, former president of the club, promised loyal support to the decisions of the Club.
The three Jewish deputies who were elected on the government ticket have organized themselvs in a “Progressive Club.” Only the deputy of the ultra-Orthodox Agudath Israel, Rabbi Levin, has not joined with any other Jewish parliament members.
Although the members of the club wil have no opportunity to participate in the parliamentary committees, because they number less than ten, it is stated here however, that the government party will appoint the Jewish deputy, Wishlicki, as a member of the commerce committee, and that Deputy Minczberg will be appointed to the education committee.
The lack of unity among Polish Jewry was well reflected at the opening session of parliament yesterday. The ten Jewish deputies were divided into three parties. While in the former Sejm all the Jewish deputies belonged to one club and together occupied a prominent place in the Sejm, the six Zionist deputies yesterday sat behind the Ukrainians, and Deputy Gruenbaum, who formerly sat near the platform, yesterday occupied the last row among the minority groups. The three Jewish deputies who were elected on the government ticket were scattered among the non-Jewish deputies belonging to that party, while the Agudath deputy, Rabbi Levin, sat alone.
