Early next year the Palestine government is expected to take action to adapt its custom tariff to meet the needs of the printing industry of the country which employs a considerable number of workers in Tel Aviv and other towns. The boot and shoe industry is also expected to be afforded further protection as a result of the recent protest on the part of shoemakers of all communities against the importation of foreign products.
Meanwhile the Egyptian government has not been moved to reconsider its decision regarding its prohibitive tariff on bananas and oranges from Palestine. As a result of the over-production of cotton the Egyptian government is determined to encourage the growing of fruit. Many prominent Egyptians have begun to grow fruit since the cotton market slumped.
