Shechita is to be prohibited in the Free City of Bremen, according to the statement made in the Bremen Parliament by the Social Democratic Rapporteur for the Commission in charge of the question. In replying to an enquiry by a Hitlerist Deputy as to when the prohibition of Shechita was to be enforced, he stated that his Commission comprising representatives of all parties had decided to recommend to Parliament that Shechita should be prohibited. The Social Democrats, the German Nationals and the Hitlerists have a majority in the Bremen Parliament, so that the recommendation of the Commission is sure of acceptance.
The prohibition of Shechita in Bremen would affect not only the Jewish population, but also the great German Transatlantic shipping company, the Norddeutsche Lloyd, by making it impossible for its liners which sail from Bremen to provide kosher meat as at present for its Jewish passengers.
