The first Jewish enterprise to leave Palestine for Syria is the hosiery factory of Messrs. Freedman and Edelstein, who had decided to move as early as the spring of 1930, the removal being delayed pending negotiations in which the Jewish Agency took the leading part.
Attempts were made to reorganise the sale of stockings in such a way as to avoid unnecessary competition and to enable the firm to continue its business in Tel Aviv. This attempt having failed, however, the Jewish Agency was prepared to enable a larger concern to absorb this firm, undertaking to find the necessary capital. This attempt, too, miscarried, and the factory has now been transferred to Syria.
