Funeral Today for Herman Hessberg, Political Leader

The funeral of Herman M. Hessberg, superintendent of the Brooklyn bureau of public building and offices who died on Wednesday at the age of 48, will be held this afternoon at the Eighth Avenue Temple, Brooklyn. The honorary pallbearers will include Presiding Justice Edward Lazansky, Supreme Court Justices Harry E. Lewis and Mitchell May, John H. McCooey, Democratic leader of Brooklyn, and others.

Mr. Hessberg, who was formerly sheriff of Kings County and was for many years active in Democratic polities in New York City, was born in the Williamsburg district of Brooklyn. After being graduated from public school, he became a messenger boy for Hugh McLaughlin, then Democratic leader of Brooklyn. In 1911 he received an appointment as deputy county clerk. In 1926 Mr. Hessberg was named commissioner of records and a year later was elected sheriff for a two year term, At the expiration of his term as sheriff, he was appointed superintendent of public buildings and offices. Mr. Hessberg also managed many campaings for Democratic candidates for offices.

Mr. Hessberg was an active worker in the Brooklyn Hebrew Orphan Asylum.
