Achad Ha ‘am’s Widow Dead.

Mrs. Ginsburg, the widow of the late Dr. Asher Ginsburg, the famous Hebrew philosopher and founder of spiritual Zionism, died this morning at Haifa.

The funeral will take place in Tel Aviv to-morrow (Tuesday), and she will be buried in a plot acquired during her life time at the side of the grave of her famous husband.

Her son, Dr. Solomon Ginsburg, who is Registrar at the Hebrew University, was abroad but was able to return in time on being notified in Paris that his mother was dying, and he was at her death-bed.

Achad Ha’am’s death in January 1927, was the occasion of wide-spread mourning in all Jewish centres of the world. In Palestine, national mourning was proclaimed, and great crowds, including delegations from all parts of the country followed the funeral. Black flags flew in Tel Aviv over the municipal buildings and all important institutions. Memorial meetings were held in all cities of the world, containing big Jewish populations, like Warsaw, Vienna, Berlin, New York, London, Paris, etc. In Vienna and in other cities, the Zionists proclaimed a fortnight of national mourning. Many telegrams of condolence arrived from all over the world, including one from Sir Herbert Samuel, offering his “deepest sympathy on the death of the great spiritual leader Achad Ha’am, to whose inspiration and achievements Palestine of the present day and Jewry owe so much.”
