According to information received here by the Hias-Ica-Emigdirect (Hicem), the representative of the Ica in Rio de Janeiro has succeeded in obtaining, exceptionally, admission permits to Brazil on behalf of emigrants who have relatives in that country. The relatives should apply to the local Hicem Committees (in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre) where all the formalities for obtaining the permits will be completed.
The Immigration Office of the Foreign Ministry has advised the Hicem Committee that henceforth it will no longer grant free railway or steamship tickets to immigrants proceeding to the interior of the country. The reason is that the present immigration being confined to relatives of residents, they and not the State must cover the travelling expenses to the place of destination.
The Hicem, therefore, warns all Jewish emigrants desiring to proceed to Brazil, that they must be in possession, before starting, not only of their passage ticket to the Brazilian port, but also the money required for proceeding to their final destination.
CUBA
In the case of Cuba, every immigrant landing in Cuba should be in possession of a sum of 200 dollars. Where there is a whole family immigrating, only the head of the family need have this amount. In addition, the relatives of the immigrant or the persons to whom the immigrant is going, must deposit a sum of 100 dollars as a guarantee for a year.
Although the situation is now quiet in Cuba, the Hicem adds, in view of the economic crisis there, no emigrant is advised to go to Cuba at present, unless they have relatives there able to help them.
