Dr. Bruening, the German Federal Prime Minister, has addressed a letter of thanks to the German Delegation to the Basle Conference of Financial Experts who have just submitted their unanimous report that Germany is unable to continue to pay reparations and given first place to Dr. Melchior, the Jewish banker who was the head of the German Delegation, paying tribute to him for the clarity with which he presented Germany’s case to the Conference.

The Jews in Germany are highly delighted with Dr. Melchior’s achievement, and regard the Prime Minister’s expression of gratitude as sufficient satisfaction compensating for the abuse to which he and the Jews through him were subjected in the antisemitic press when he was appointed.

The German Jews are proud of Dr. Melchior’s success, and describe it as a snub to the Hitlerists.
