The death has taken place at the age of 77, the “Jewish Chronicle” reports, of Mr. Oswald John Simon, son of Sir John Simon, K.C., the first Jew to practise at the bar in England and the first Jew to perform the function of a judge in England. Sir John Simon, who was for many years a member of Parliament, was one of the leaders of the battle for Jewish emancipation in England in the days before Jews could sit in Parliament.
Mr. Oswald John Simon, who was a life-long friend of Dr. Claude G. Montefiore, was associated with his father in all his Jewish and other activities and was an active worker in cheinglo-Jewish Association, the Joint Foreign Committee, the West London Synagogue, the Jewish Religious Union and other Jewish bodies.
