Mr. Farbstein, member of the Jewish Agency Executive, has been conferring with Mr. Stead, the Director of Customs, Excise and Trade in the Palestine Government, on the question of the customs duties at present in force on a number of important articles produced in the country. If the present policy is continued, he complained, local producers will have to close down gradually, because they are unable to fight foreign competition.
Mr. Stead promised to do whatever is in his power to save the industries in question, and give them a possibility of competing with the foreign importers. Other questions relating to the development of Palestine industry were discussed between Mr. Farbstein and Mr. Stead.
