The Roumanian Legation here sprang a surprise today and denounced as a dangerous Communist agent, Samson Bronstein, Zionist leader of Yedinez, Bessarabia, who was tortured by local officials on May 7th.

This charge is made in reply to a communication from the Executive of the Poale Zion, which enclosed certified medical certificates with descriptions of the torture to which Bronstein was subjected.

The Roumanian Legation states that “an investigation of the chief of the gendarmes nad three gendarmes has been instituted who in this case exceeded their prescribed duties in arresting Bronstein, who is definitely proved to be a dangerous Communist agent.” The Roumanian Legation states further that “Bronstein’s condition is considerably improved to the exclusion of complications.”
