A new orientation of the policies of the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations of Chicago, the Kehillah, was decided upon by the executive committee. The committee also announced that the Schochtim have pledged $5,000 annually to assist the Talmud Torahs.
The Kehillah agreed to conduct a drive against the “mushroom” synagogues which have been springing up in increasing number in Chicago before the High Holidays. The Kehillah will conduct, it announced, a dignified publicity campaign against this evil.
An investigation in the situation at the Jewish Shelter Home also was ordered. Conflicting reports about the conduct of the home and conditions there have been issued as a result of what is reported to be internal strife by those who are conducting this organization.
The executive committee of the Kehillah endorsed the enterprise of the Vaad Ha-Chinuch and the United Auxiliaries of Orthodox Jewish Women concerning Education Day and pledged the participation of every synagogue and auxiliary in this event.
Reorganization of the Vaad Ha-Schitah was completed when President A. Goldblatt was authorized to appoint eleven laymen to this important committee.
