Thirty-six peasants of the village of Ostrowiec were arrested yesterday by the police on charges of having attacked a number of Jews last Friday and having poured petrol over 15 carts of fruit the Jews were transporting to Otwotzk.
The Jews were severely beaten up by their attackers. The arrested peasants have been taken to Warsaw.
A search of the village by the police discovered propaganda material calling upon the peasants not to bring their products to the town markets.
For this reason it is believed that the attack may not have been inspired by anti-Semitic motives.
