A vigorous protest against Tunisian civil authorities for failing to take sufficiently energetic steps to curb excesses against the Jews was issued last night at a meeting convened by the League to Combat anti-Semitism.
The speakers included Bernard Lecache, Pierre Paraf and Felix Allauche, who severely scored the letter addressed to the League by Premier Herriot in which he promised measures to curb excesses but also intimated that the Jews might be provoking the attack.
Speakers stressed that Jews are not responsible for any provocation of the religious feelings of the Arabs. They also emphasized the belief that Palestine agitators are responsible for arousing racial antagonism in Tunisia.
Hope was expressed that the French government would undertake to put an end to the anti-Semitic movement.
