The abandonment of Spaniolish for the Turkish language by the Jewish population of Smyrna was resolved upon at a mass meeting under the auspices of the Jewish Youth Movement.
The movement for the adoption of the Turkish language was initiated some years ago by the Jewish population of Milas, with whom Smyrna now joins ranks.
The Jewish population of Istambul has thus far remained aloof realizing the difficulties that must be surmounted and the impossibility of bringing about a sudden change from Spaniolish which the Jewish population has employed for centuries. The Istambul Jewish population prefers to wait for a gradual change to the Turkish language.
