An example of the extent to which the incitement against the Jews has taken hold of the imaginations of the Polish population in the provinces was offered in the town of Stanislau when a Christian Pole risked his wife’s life rather than allow her to be operated upon by a Jewish physician.
The woman, named Barska, was rushed to a Jewish hospital in a critical condition when fishbones from her Christmas dinner, stuck in her throat, threatening to choke her to death. Physicians prepared to operate immediately. As soon as her husband learned of the operation, he removed her, shouting “The Jews want to kill her!”
