A government official, Sarailieff, is in the leadership of a virulent anti-Semitic campaign which has developed in Widdin.

Under Sarailieff’s direction, the National Socialists have undertaken a “war to the end” against the Jewish population which is accused of responsibility for the present unsatisfactory political situation and for the post-war pacts unfavorable to Bulgaria.

Posters, patterned after the Nazi posters in Germany, have been placarded throughout the city, wherein the Jews are branded as criminals and traitors.

Despite the virulence of the campaign, it has made little impression on the population as a whole. Both the democratic press and the union of merchants have issued protests and demand that the official responsible be dismissed from his post, or at least be recalled from Widdin.
