Dr. Cyrus Adler, President of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, announces the publication of Volume 4 of the “Thesaurus of Mediaeval Hebrew Poetry” by Professor Israel Davidson. This volume completes a scholarly undertaking which has extended over a period of nearly two decades. It consists of four quarto volumes totalling 2,063 pages entirely printed in Hebrew, with the exception of a few pages of preface, printed at the Hebrew Press of the Jewish Publication Society. The publication of these volumes is largely owing to a Jewish benefactress greatly interested in the furtherance of Jewish scholarship.

To complete this Thesaurus, Professor Davidson has travelled far and wide, has searched public libraries and private collections the world over; has combined critical faculty and unremitting industry. These four volumes, according to Professor Davidson’s Preface, “record at least 35,000 poems, just about six times as many as Zunz recorded in his Literaturgeschichte.”
