Central Group to Direct Zionist Activities

The Executive Committee of the Central and Southwestern Region meeting here established one central organization to be responsible for the conduct of Zionist affairs in fifteen of the Central and Southwestern states.

A membership campaign with a view of enrolling 2,500 new members in the Zionist Organization of America was launched following a review of Zionist work in America, delivered by Dr. Alex S. Wolf, Chairman of the Department on Organization. Plans presented by Dr. Wolf also called for the creation of at least twenty-five new Zionist Units.

The organization of adolescent groups was also discussed at the one day conference that took place at the Muehlebach Hotel in Kansas City, which was presided over by Prof. Gustave Klausner, of St. Louis, who is the newly elected President of the Region.

A drive for funds for the American Palestine Campaign of the Jewish Agency was also officially launched. Harry Friedberg of Kansas City is the Chairman of the American Palestine Campaign for this Region.

A report on youth and education was submitted by Philip Klutznick of Omaha.

Resolutions were adopted by the Executive Committee calling for the organization of celebrations in honor of Chaim Nachman Bialik, national Hebrew poet, and the Executive Committee also issued a call to all Zionist Districts to celebrate the issuance of Dr. Leon Pinsker’s “Auto-Emancipation.”
