The secularization of all marriages in Turkey is being contemplated by the Turkish government which will submit an ordinance for this purpose to Parliament.

Under the contemplated regulations, all marriages performed by rabbis will be illegal unless they are preceded by a civil ceremony.

The clergy are threatened with heavy fines if they perform the religious ceremony before a civil ceremony has been carried through.
