The Rundschau, organ of the German Zionist Federation gave warning yesterday that German Jewry will combat any attempt made to bring about the withdrawal of its rights.
Commenting upon the appointment of Adolph Hitler to the Chancellorship, the paper assumes that President Paul von Hindenburg and the parties supporting the Hitler cabinet will respect the equality of rights guaranteed to the Jews under the German constitution and that the Hitler anti-Semitic program will not become the program of the Federal Government.
“We are convinced,” the Rundschau asserts, “that the German people will oppose a barbarian anti-Semitic policy. Germany’s position among the civilized nations of the world depends upon its attitude toward the Jewish question.
“German Jewry will preserve its honor in peace, but it will combat any attempt at a formal or practical withdrawal of its rights, standing together for mutual defense,” the paper states.
