Chief Police Aliens Officer, Friendly to Jews, Dismissed

The elimination of the Jewish officials from the public services is proceeding apace. The latest victims are two Jewish women who, for many years, occupied high posts in Government departments. They are Government Councillor Kaethe Rosenheim and Police Councillor Martha Mosse. It is significant that both these women had for long been subjected to most virulent persecution in the Nazi press.

It is evident also that the campaign is being directed not only against Jews alone, but that attention is also being paid to non-Jews suspected of any degree of friendliness towards Jews. A victim in this connection, is Goehrke, chief police Aliens Officer who has been dismissed by Police President Levitzow, his office being sealed by one of his Nazi opponents. Commenting on Goehrke’s dismissal, as Goehrke was regarded as a protector of East European Jews, the “Voelkischer Beobachter,” the Nazi organ, announces that the State Attorney has ordered an investigation into the naturalizations of East European Jews during the last ten years. The paper adds that Goehrke was an honored guest at the gathering of the Federation of East European Jews.

Hand in hand with the dismissal of Jewish and friendly officials, goes the appointment of Nazi nominees. The most recent is Dr. Conti, notorious as leader of the Nazi fraction of the German Medical Association who had made incessant efforts to inject anti-Semitism into the affairs of the Association. Dr. Conti has now been given a post in the Ministry of Interior. In a statement given by him to the “Deutsche Beobachter,” after his appointment, he said that it would be his duty to carry into effect a program of race hygiene and to watch the naturalizations.
