A Hitlerist cell has been established on the North German Lloyd liner Europa, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learns.
The organization recently held a meeting in the New York Hitler headquarters, at 309 East 92nd St, which was well attended, when the Europa docked in New York, according to a report appearing in the March issue of the “Deutscher Beobachter”, a National Socialist paper in German published in New York.
Mr. H. Schuengle, Resident Director of the North German Lloyd Line, replying to an inquiry by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, addressed a telegram to the Agency, which states: “Replying to your telegram of even date, the formation of political organizations of any kind on North German Lloyd steamers has always been and is now forbidden by rules of the Company. The Company is not aware of party membership or political views of individual employees of whatever rank or capacity. Considering that our crews represent a cross section of the whole German population, one should expect their political views or affiliations to show distributions among all parties approximately the same as the entire German electorate, as indicated by the election returns.”
