In addition to the list of speakers already announced, headed by former Governor Alfred E. Smith, Bishop William T. Manning; William Green, President of the American Federation of Labor, Senator Robert F. Wagner, Bishop Francis J. McConnell of the Council of Federal Churches, the monster protest meeting in Madison Square Garden will be addressed by Governor Herbert H. Lehman. Governor Lehman informed the leaders of the rally that he will deliver a personal address at the meeting if affairs of the state permit, and that in any case, should he be unable to leave the Capitol, he will appear at the Albany protest meeting scheduled for the same evening, where his speech will be transmitted by telephone to New York and rebroadcast at the Madison Square Garden meeting.

The Federation of Hebrew Schools in Greater New York, of which Rabbi Gabriel is Executive Secretary and Isaac Allen is President, has issued a call to all Talmud Torahs and Yeshivas to suspend classes at six o’clock on Monday evening and to march their pupils to their respective assembly halls, where the principals and the teachers will address the children on the dangers threatening their co-religionists in Germany and will together offer prayers to the Almighty for their safety and at the completion of the ceremonies will march in bodies to Madison Square Garden. The Federation comprises 250 schools and 12 Parochial Schools and Yeshivas with the enrollment of over 60,000 pupils and a staff of over 15,000 teachers.

Final plans for the protest meeting throughout the country were completed at a luncheon at the Hotel Commodore last Thursday evening, convened by the American Jewish Congress. Committees were appointed to take charge of the various activities and to care for the record crowd expected to storm the doors of the Garden. Arrangements have been made for overflow meetings in the vicinity, where the proceedings inside will be relayed by means of loud speakers.

NATIONAL FEDERATION OF ORTHODOX CONGREGATIONS SWELLS PROTEST

The National Federation of Orthodox Congregations, with a membership of over one thousand congregations throughout the country, will participate in the protest demonstration in Madison Square Garden, Monday, March 27th, and in numerous cities throughout the U. S.

Their resolution reads: “The reported atrocities inflicted upon our fellow-Jews in Germany without any provocation on their part, has shocked the enlightened public opinion of the world. That a cultured people like the Germans should permit such inhuman actions by official and unofficial representatives of the government, was thought impossible.

“Public spirited men of all religions have protested against the injustice and violence toward the Jews in Germany. As Jews, we call upon you to participate in the demonstrations arranged throughout the country, to express the deep indignation of American Jewry. We must stay the hand of destruction.”

500 BRITH ABRAHAM LODGES TO PROTEST THROUGHOUT U. S.

Isidore Apfel, Grand Master of the Independent Order Brith Abraham, the largest Fraternal Order in America, has issued a call to the 500 lodges affiliated with the Order throughout the United States, to participate in protest demonstrations arranged throughout the country, against the wave of anti-Semitism in Germany.

N. Y. AND BROOKLYN MINISTERS’ RESOLUTION ON GERMAN PERSECUTION

The New York Board of Jewish Ministers and the Brooklyn Jewish Ministers Association, passed a resolution, expressing dismay and profound sorrow at the reports of outrages against the Jews of Germany. The resolution declares:

“We cannot believe that these excesses against the integral element of the German nation and culture are condoned by the German people. We are, therefore, heartened by the eloquent and forceful appeal by American Christians to the German people to disavow every act or policy which robs Jews of their fundamental human rights and fosters discrimination against them.”

Rabbi Max Brod is President of the New York Board of Jewish Ministers, and Rabbi Moses J. S. Abels is head of the Brooklyn Jewish Ministers Association.

PROTEST MEETING AT CITY COLLEGE

A protest meeting against Hitlerism was held at City College on Thursday afternoon, under the auspices of the Menorah Association.

Morton Gottschall, the dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences presided at the meeting. Many prominent professors of the College were present, including Morris Rayfield Cohen, of the Philosophy Department, Edwin Roedder, head of the German department, Prof. Mankiewicz and Prof. A. O. Hansen, both of the Educational department and many other distinguished professors were present.

The main speaker was Rabbi Joshua Goldberg, head of the Astoria Jewish Center.

RABBINICAL ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION ON NAZI EXCESSES

The Executive Council of the Rabbinical Assembly in America, of which Rabbi Mordecai M. Kaplan is President, passed a resolution yesterday, expressing horror at the German atrocities, and the fervent hope that the eyes of Germany may be opened to the sins she is committing against herself and the world.

The Rabbinical Assembly of America represents about 300 congregations throughout the United States.
