Production of the late Max Nordau’s play on the theme of intermarriage, “Doktor Kohn”, was forbidden by the police who informed the directors of the Bethlen Theatre that the discussion of the problems of Jewish and Christian relationships posed in the play, would endanger the peace at this time. The management of the theatre has offered to delete the controversial parts of the drama and has asked that the ban be reconsidered since it means unemployment for a large number of artists. The Home Office has appointed a commission to investigate the case.
