One of the most drastic acts against the Jews of Germany since the advent of the Hitler regime was effected today with the practical confiscation of all Jewish relief funds by the authorities. An order has been issued to all banks where these funds are on deposit not to make any further payments of these accounts which are to remain blocked.
Among the organizations affected are the Zentrale Wohlfahrstelle which is recognized by the Government as the representative Jewish relief organization embracing all relief institutions and incorporating twenty-three state and provincial associations for social, labor, cultural, relief and migration purposes. Similarly affected is the Jewish Credit and Loan Association which was about to play a most important part in readjustment of dismissed Jewish professional men and women by granting them small loans.
Whether the Nazi measures against Jewish relief activities are permanent or temporary is difficult to establish at this time nor is it possible to foresee what these measures indicate.
