Residents of “Corner House,” 311 West 14th Street, for the last 17 years a shelter for orphanage “alumni” and homeless Jewish young men, have established themselves in the house’s new building, the $500,000 Lavanburg Memorial Foundation, at 331 West 12th Street.
Corner House is primarily an organization for the care of youths who have completed their periods of residence at the Hebrew Orphan Asylum and similar institutions. The Lavanburg House was erected in 1928 through the genorosity of the late Fred L. Lavanburg, as a memorial to his mother. Until recently it was used as a home for Jewish girls.
