Economic Blows Upon Mad Germany Must Bring Nazis to Sense Some Time, Sooner or Later, Says R. D. Blu

I wonder if the so-called regenerators of Germany, the Nazis and their megalomaniac leaders, have given any sort of consideration to the eventual effect of their policy with regard to the Jewish citizens of Germany. Perhaps none. The logical result must be none other than that throughout the world, if not now then next week, next month or next year the policy of world Jewry on the subject of the boycott of German goods will react disastrously on German trade.

If the present retaliatory mood of world Jewry does not diminish—and there is every prospect that it will expand enormously—then it is as definite as the sequence of the tides that Germany will suffer a most devastating defeat. Unfortunately for themselves and for the world’s peace of mind, the Hitlerite adventurers who seized power are still so drunk with their imagined success that they fail to perceive the writing on the wall. If they had sense which they do not possess, they would attempt to come to some form of accomodation. It is too early for that. Presently it may be too late.

NON-JEWS AID BOYCOTT

I have been told by a gentleman just landed from New York—and not on a German ship—that the boycott as practiced there works most effectively in that it is not merely confined to business houses which refrain from continuing to trade with Germany but that indeed its principal practitioners are housewives and shoppers who are not necessarily Jewish. Here is an example.

A woman goes to one of the greatest department stores in search of a particular article of merchandise. It is produced. All goods have now to be marked with the country of origin. If this particular article happens to be German, the woman rejects it and says, “I will not have German goods and I will not come here again until you have stopped selling them.” Then she walks out and other women follow with the same determined refusal. Within twenty-four hours this particular firm makes notice of its conversion and German goods disappear.

My informant tells me that the sale of German goods in the great department stores in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago and so on, has almost ceased. That’s a pretty good answer to the news from Nuremberg about the maltreatment of Jewish citizens and a fitting reply to the boycotting of Jewish cattle-dealers at Frankfurt and throughout the whole Main district. Tit for tat towards further boycotting of Jewish doctors by the commissary of the medical association and an eloquent retort to the brutal jeering of Der Angriff, propaganda sheet edited by the sweet-reasoned Goebbels.

Poor old Hitler does not come off so very well as the inventor and protagonist of the so-called Aryan “race.” I told you last week I always laugh when these German playboys talk about their Aryan blood. Now comes Professor Gordon Childs of Edinburgh University and smashes up Hitler’s pretensions into modern potsherds. There is no such thing as the Aryan race, says the professor, no such thing as Aryan blood. Our present civilization comes from the Egyptians and the people of the Indus Valley and thence through the Greeks and Romans. While this civilization was already flourishing the Germans and Anglo-Saxons, who are the so-called Heil Hitler Aryans, “were filthy savages picking up shellfish on the shores of the Baltic. There is not any trace of Aryan elements in any sense among the creators of civilized life. ‘Aryan’ was a linguistic term and denoted speakers of a group of languages.”
