A statement issued by the Academic Council of the Hebrew University, meeting here, has proposed the establishment of a medical faculty in the Hebrew University as part of the extension plan to enable the employment of the dismissed Jewish professors and scholars of Germany and in order to allow them to continue their studies and research projects.
American and European universities can offer only a limited number of positions, the statement continued, and any effort to go beyond these limitations may produce ill will and friction in those countries.
The statement was signed by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Hebrew University; L. S. Ornstein, chairman of the Academic Council, and Chief Rabbi J. H. Hertz, of England, chairman of the Institute of Jewish Studies.
Dr. J. L. Magnes, chancellor of the Hebrew University, made an appeal for the raising of an annual minimum sum of fifteen thousand pounds and over and above the regular annual budget of forty thousand pounds.
The new medical faculty for which the additional money is being asked is considered by the signatories as a most urgent measure since the University already possesses well-equipped medical laboratories, qualified research workers
