Zionist Congress Honors Ussishkin on 70th Birthday

A special session of the congress was held last evening in honor of Menachim M. Ussishkin, veteran Zionist leader, president of the Keren Kayemeth (Jewish National Fund) and “father of the Emek”, who celebrated his seventieth birthday yesterday.

Dr. Sokolow, Dr. Leo Motzkin, chairman of the Actions Committee, and representatives of the Zionist parties extended greetings to Mr. Ussishkin and praised his achievements in purchasing land in Palestine as the “inalienable property of the Jewish people.”

A special colony named Ussihskin, will be established in Palestine, the Zionist executive resolved. “Palestine is not complete without such a colony,” said Dr. Sokolow. “Ussishkin’s biography presents the history of Zionist growth,” Dr. Leo Motzkin, chairman of the Actions Committee and president of the congress, declared.

In an impressive speech, Dr. Stephen S. Wise of New York termed Ussishkin “the greatest Jewish son of the East of our time.” “While Weizmann and Sokolow, who a children of the East,” Rabbi ### said, “became men of the ###est Ussishkin stubbornly remain### unassimilated, symbolizing the ###eat forces of Russian Jewry.”

Replying to the addresses, Ussishkin expressed the wish that the coming generation would obtain full possession of Palestine.
