Harry Batschaw, young Montreal attorney, who recently returned from a visit to Palestine, was elected president of the Young Judaea of Canada at the close of the ninth annual convention here Maz Zaitlen, of Saskatoon; Dr. Mark Zimmerman, of Toronto, and William Guss, of St. John, were named vice-presidents. Max J. Garmaise, Toronto, was elected secretary and Samuel H. Abramson, Toronto, treasurer.
The convention unanimously adopted a resolution condemning persecution of the Jews in Germany ad requesting the League of Nations to bring pressure to bear on the Nazi regime to end it. Other resolutions stressing the importance of Zionist education among the Jewish youth of Canada, were also adopted.
“At no time in the history of the Jewish race has it been subjected to such tortures and humiliation as today,” A. J. Freiman, president of the Canadian Zionist Organization, told the convention. “We who live under the British flag are perhaps better off than any of our brethren, yet we are suffering spiritually the tortures of those being tortured in other lands.”
