American Jews have contributed $1,111,044 for the relief of German Jews to date, Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, national chairman of the German Relief fund of the Joint Distribution Committee, announced Saturday. Over $800,000 in cash has been received by the committee on account of pledges. These totals, Rabbi Wise declared, would be substantially increased by the receipts from the concert held at White Plains, September 28; by Yom Kippur offerings at the synagogues all over the United States and by collections in a campaign now in progress in Louisville, Ky., where an initial $10,000 has already been subscribed.
