A link with the ancient days when the children of Israel were engaged in conquering the land of Canaan under the leadership of Joshua, has been discovered in the remains of the ancient city of Misheal. The city, which is mentioned in the Book of Joshua (19:26), is located between the river Kishon and Mount Carmel.

Fifteen hundred years prior to the beginning of the present era, Misheal or Tel Abu Hawan, was a flourishing industrial center for trading and business. It was destroyed in the period of Kings and was deserted until the period of the Second Temple. Later it again flourished well into the Roman and Byzantine eras.
