Three Jews under sentence of death in connection with the Cuban political disorders have been freed following the intercession of the Jewish Center of Cuba, the offices of the HIAS here learned Friday. A fourth Jewish youth, Moishe Sagavalov, is still under arrest and efforts are being made to secure his release. The four were accused of firing on troops from housetops in Havana.
The center, which is maintained by the HIAS, secured the assistance of the French embassy in obtaining release of the youths. It is expected that the fourth lad will also go free.
Although conditions in Havana have quietened down, according to a radio message received here, agitation against the Jews continues and alarm for their personal safety is felt by many Jewish residents.
