Colonel Sir Frederick Lewis Nathan, distinguished British soldier and brother of Sir Matthew Nathan, died here Sunday. Sir Frederick was 72 years old.

He was born on February 10, 1861. In his youth he entered the Royal Military Academy and upon his graduation in 1879, he was posted to the Royal Artillery. Rising in rank rapidly, he was made Lt. Colonel in 1905 and the following year was knighted.

Sir Frederick was appointed Superintendent of the Enfield Arms factory in 1909 and later became manager of the English Nobel Explosives factory. During the world war he was assigned to the Ministry of Munitions, then headed by David Lloyd George.

The Nathan family, well-known in England, has produced a number of distinguished soldiers and colonial administrators.
