The keynote of the annual meetings of the Jewish Welfare Federation and its affiliated agencies was sounded by Henry Wineman, chairman of the board of governors of the Federation, who called for action in behalf of the international obligations of Jewry.
Pointing out that the Federation was compelled to cancel all national and international obligations in 1933 on account of the bank crash, Mr. Wineman declared:
“This was a most drastic and unusual procedure because we always had a very generous giving tradtion. As a result of the German tragedy, we have, for eight months, been flooded with appeals for help. We have open to c##ticism.“It we have not given, we at least had plenty of time to give serious thought to this grave problem. Most of us have had to ask ourselves, “What would we do if these things happpened to us?” This is no idle thought because we are surrounded by dangers.
“The present conditions have set aflame a desire in every Jewish breast ot help the unfortunates. We have a great task ahead of us. The job falls upon you, men and women of the Detroit Service Group. It is a job for every on of us.”
Mr. Wineman announced that the annual campaign is to be held from May 6 to 16. He appealed to the entire group to enlist in the army to “fight in this battle for political libery, religioius freedom and tolerance.”
LEAGUE SUPPER AND DANCE
The Junior League of the Crippled Children’s After Care, Inc., will hold its annual supper and dance on Wednesday at the Casino de Paree. The proceeds will be devoted to the senior organzation, which maintains a staff of physicians and nurses in five of physicians and nurses in five public schools and in the Post Graduate. Hospital for the treatment of infantile paralysis victims.
