SEES ROOM IN PALESTINE FOR MILLION JEWS BEFORE LIMIT REACHED

The German Refugee Body headed by High Commissioner James G. McDonald has lost much of its ”potential usefulness” as a result of England’s refusal to ”include Palestine within the sphere of the activity of the High Commissioner,” Emanuel Neumann, fomer of the administrative committee of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, said in an interview with the Jewish Daily Bulletin yesterday.

Mr. Neuman who has just returned from an extended stay in Palestine where he represented an international syndicate. said that ”the proceedings of the recent meetings of the governing body of High Commissioner read like a cruel just at the expence of the Jews.” He took to task countries whose representatives declared that their doors are closed to Jewish immingration.

LITTLE HELP FROM POWERS

”Up to the present,” said Mr. Newmann, ”the powers have given Mr. Mcdonald precious little help. They have cheared the refugess with pious resolutions and paved their hard road with good intentions.

”I understan an attempt is to be made t discover territories tor Jewish colomization. On principle, on e cannot but sympathize with the humane philanthropic impulse behind this idea, but I am for from sanguine as to the outscome.

”The results are likely to be heart breaking disproportionate to the effort they will cost. If considerabel nubers of Jews are to be colonized outside of Palestine, special consideration should be given to the near and middle east.

”But it is unquestionable tht Palestine itself has, by so means reached the maximum of her absorptive capacity. We have not begun to exploit all of the possitbillities. There is room in Palestine for at least another million Jews. Why not bend every effort to reach that goal within the next fifteen years? This is the real job of the Jewish people.”

Mr. Neumann praised the work of American Jews in the Holy Land but added with conviction that ”they have not yet brought their potential strength into pay.”

He said that the Holy Land is prosperous to a degree but said that there is room there for many more ”experienced bussiness men.” He spoke of the need for a strong centralized political party in Palestine ”which will impose a truce in the name of supreme national interests.”
