Avukah Honors Lewin, Exiled Reich Savant

Kurt Lewish, exiled German professor, was tendered a dinner at the Jewish Theological Seminary last night by the Avukah Student Zionist Federation. The dinner concluded a two day Eastern conference.

Preof. Lewin, formerly of the University of Berlin and now teaching psychlogy at Cornell University, spoke on “Psychoscilogical ProblemsBelonging to the Jewish Group.” He contended that antagonism against the Jew as a group has diminished ince Jewish emancipation, while feeling against the Jew as an individual remains. Other speakers at the dinner were: Dr. Irving Gourritch of the American Economic Committee, Rose L. Rosenberg, vice H. Bixman, executive secretary of the Young Judea.

At the Saturday night and Sunday heard Simon Green berg, president o Avukah, speak on “The Center Position in Zionism,” and Rabbi Maurice Pekarsky of the B’nai B’rith Hilled Foundation on “The Inadequacy of Student Zionist Education.”

ATTACKS ‘SQUABBLING’

Dr. Greenberg declared that “party squabbling will be the ruin of Zionism” and pleaded for a strong center position. Rabbi Pekarsky recommended that Avukah pay more atten tion to sudent ecomoic problems.

Resolution were adopted urging colleges and universities to institute Hebrew in their curricula, demanding the passage of the TYdings resolution in Congress, and asking that the Zionist Organization of America suport Avukah. The resolutions committee included: Lewis Kollin, New York University; Sol Lippman, N. Y. U; Zelman Rosenfield, the College of the City of New York; Esther Drachler, Hunter College, and Abraham Hulpern of harvared University.

STATEN ISLAND RELLEF FUND

The Jews of Staten Isiand have organized to raise a fund that will be distributed among the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, Keren Haryesod and Hebrew Immigrant Aid Sociely. Max Levy is executive director of found raising.
