Expressing the fear that the present agitation for a Jewish World Congress may divide instead of unite the Jewish community, Bernared G. Richards, chairman of the Jewish Coucil of Greater New York, warned teh open forum at the Mosholu Parkway Jewish Center, 3044 Hull Avenue, the Bronx, against hasty or insflictiently considered action, and called upon the opponents to be more constructive in their criticism by offering a substitute plan of larger co-operation for the welfare of the oppressed in world Jewry.
“The World Jewish Congress as now presented,” declared Mr. Richards, “threatens to split the different communities of the country into several camps instead of uniting our people. Unless all signs fail-and I hope they do fail-we shall open a number of new divisions instead of attaining the longed-for unity and co-operation in aid of the oppressed Jews of Germany and victims of discrimination in other lands.”
