Carnival to Aid Refugees Set for March 11

The Women’s Emergency Council of New York will give a carnival and costume ball at the Astor on Sunday evening, March 11, for the benefit of German Jewish refugees.

Proceeds will go toward the settling and maintenance of refugees in Palestine. Patronesses include Mrs. Mordecai Kaplan, Mrs. Bernard S. Deutsch, Mrs. Stephen S. Wise, Mrs. George Z. Medalie, Mrs. Albert Einstein, Mrs. Philip Vogelman, Mrs. Joseph Cohen, Mrs. Israel. Goldstein, Mrs. Leon A. Kohn, Mrs. Israel Sachs and Mrs. William Salzman.

The group organized less than a month ago at the request of various leaders in the Zionist movement. It is working in conjunction with the emergeney campaign of the Jewish Agency, of which Nathan Straus, Jr., is chairman, and has headquarters at 111 Fifth avenue.

Officers of the Women’s Emergency Council are Mrs. Louis Lipsky, chairman; Mrs. A. J. Rongy, Mrs. Joseph Lamport and Mrs. Herman Bernstein, vice-chairman; Mrs. J. J. Lesser, treasurer and Mrs. Ida Danziger Stashower, secretary.
