Nazis frequently complain that the German theatre and film industries were entirely in Jewish hands.

The Jews undoubtedly have a special aptitued for the stage. Some of the best known producers, such as Mox Reinhardt, Leopold Jessner, Barnowsky, are Jews. Actors and actresses like Pallenberg, Kortner, Elisabeth Bergner, Firtzi Massary and Maria Orska displayed a genius that conferred distinction upon the German stage. Theire artistic gifts certainly had no need of Jewish influence to obtain world renown. And these Jewish artists, Just as the producers Reinhardt and Barnowsky, were equally popular amongst Jew Jews and non-Jews.

Among some 12,000 actors in Germany there are about 300 Jews. Only very few State or municipal theatres-three or four at most-had Jewish directors. The number of Jewish directors of private theatres in large towns was higher.

The same must be said about the film industry. By far the largest film company, “UFA,” was in the hads of Hugenberg, teh leader of the extreme anti-Semitic Nationalist Party. Some of the Jewish porducers. for instance Lubitsch and Pommer, made the German film world-famous.
