Jewish children in Germany must be taken from that country “body and soul if they are not to grow up a lost and broken generation,” according to a statement issued by American Palestine Campaign in connection with an appeal for financial aid.
The statement declares that in Palestine “the children can find not only a complete escape from persecution but every opportunity for a normal and secure life, enriched by the cultural heritage of the Jewish people.”
The Jewish Agency for Palestine has included in its plans to settle German Jews through the Central Bureau for the Settlement of German Jewish refugees in Palestine, a special program for maintaining and educating children from kindergarten age to their eighteenth year.
The statement continues:
“How can their immature minds perceive the true motives behind this flagrant crime against the Jews? How can their tender spirits resist the steady vilification and constant taunts of their teachers, their fellow-pupils, and their former “Aryan” friends? How can they fight off a system of intolerance and prejudice that has already scarred them for life and branded them in their own minds as ‘inferior’ and ‘second grade’ beings? What far-reaching injury this will bring to the future generation it is too terrible to contemplate.”
