Presenting scenes from the Passion Play, Marlowe’s “Jew of Malta” and Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice,” Cecil B. Ruskay, who spoke recently on “The Early Drama of The Current Jewish Problem” before Rehoboth Lodge 38, B’nai B’rith, 120 East 149th street, pointed out the slanderous manner in which the character and personality of the Jew has been presented to the great mass of people throughout the world and declared that there must be a “united protest against a continuation of these vicious productions.”
“It is necessary that there be a restatement of Jewish ideas coupled with a fearless reassertion of the Jews’ belief in themselves as ‘The Chosen People,’ ” Mr. Ruskay said. He pointed out that any and all attempts toward assimilation were not only a sign of weakness but eventually brought about a bitter repudiation of all such aims on the part of a non-Jewish world.
