Sturm ueber Oesterreich, official organ of the Christian Socialist storm troops, who are led by Dr. Schuschnigg, Austrian Minister of Justice, today announced that the contemplated revision of the citizenship of Jews naturalized in Austria since the war would be carried out soon in the widest possible fashion.
The paper urged the Minister of Economics not to permit naturalized Jews to open new businesses or to transfer ownership of already existing concerns into the hands of others, despite the fact that they have been citizens for more than sixteen years, and are entitled to the rights of citizens.
“The elimination of naturalized Jews from business must be carried out not in accordance with judicial regulations, but in accordance with the political interests of the state,” the Christian Socialist paper said.
At the same time the Christian Socialist party issued a pamphlet calling for “practical anti-Semitism and the complete elimination of Jewish influence.”
“We Christians are sick of the destroying Jewish influence,” the pamphlet said. “The only way to restore Austria is through the road of practical anti-Semitism.”
BLACKLIST INTRODUCED
A blacklist system for Christian firms employing Jewish lawyers was introduced today by the Austrian “Association of Aryan Lawyers,” whose executive includes a number of prominent politicians.
The Association ordered every “Aryan” lawyer to compile and submit lists of firms employing Jewish lawyers.
Commissar Drnusko, who was appointed by the Dollfuss regime to rule the city of Linz after the crushing of the Austrian Socialists, today officially notified all Jewish doctors in municipal institutions of their summary dismissal. Even the lone Jewish nurse employed by the municipality of Linz was dismissed. No reason was assigned for the action of the commissar, but an announcement was made at the same time that all applicants for posts forcibly vacated by Jewish doctors must produce proofs of their “German nationality.”
The Christian Socialist party headed by Dr. Emmerich Czermak and to which Chancellor Dollfuss belongs, has taken the lead in demanding severe restrictions against the Jews of Austria. The party is officially in favor of numerous classes against the Jews and demands their removal from leading positions in Austrian professional and public life.
In the past two weeks the Christian Socialist press has carried on a vicious campaign against the Jews, which has led to the dismissal of a ## number of Jewish doctors from posts in the state services.
