In a special interview to “Haaretz,” He ## daily, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, who received a warm ovation when landing from the liner Conte di Savoia, stated that his principal purpose in coming to Palestine was to work at the new Daniel Chaim Sieff Research Institute at Rehoboth, of which he is the head. Research is to be conducted there in Biological and Physical Chemistry, Pharmacology, and in subjects connected with citrus-growing, tobacco cultivation and silk production. The official opening of the Institute is on April 3. He stated that Israel M. Sieff is donating 20,000 for the purpose.
Inspection of the arrangements made for settlement of German Jewish immigrants, supervised by Dr. Arthur Ruppin, is another of the purposes of his visit. Palestine offers a great opportunity for such settlement–in fact, it is preeminent over other countries proposed, and he believes that it is possible to settle 10,000 German Jews a year for a number of years in the land.
Dr. Weizmann refused to touch on internal Zionist affairs in his conversation, saying that he had been dealing lately exclusively with matters of German Jewish settlement. He will be in New York at the beginning of May in connection with this activity, he said.
