“It is absolutely untrue to say that we sell only German-made goods,” Lloyd T. Hilborn, president of the Clay-Adams Company, 25 East Twenty-sixth street, declared yesterday, referring to a story in the Jewish Daily Bulletin last Wednesday, which stated that his firm had shipped a crate of aquariums marked “Made in Germany” to the biology department of City College.
Mr. Hilborn asserted that the shipment consisted of rectangular museum jars, not aquariums. “They are not made anywhere but in Germany, to my best knowledge and belief,” he said.
“We are endeavoring to replace wherever possible, quality and price considered, such German merchandise as we have been importing previously, by goods from United States sources or other foreign countries,” he declared.
Himself Jewish, Mr. Hilborn said: “I am in entire sympathy with the boycott.” He has been active in the anti-Fascist movement.
